What is Super PoliGrip® used for?

Super PoliGrip® is a denture adhesive cream used to secure dentures in the mouth. It forms a barrier that prevents food from entering the area between dentures and gums/roof of the mouth.

How do I use Super PoliGrip®?

It takes a few tries to find the right amount of adhesive for your dentures. Too much adhesive can cause oozing. We strongly recommend you start with a small amount, and adjust later on.

To apply adhesive to your dentures:

  • Clean and dry your dentures.
  • Squeeze the tube from the top and apply adhesive in dashes or strips (as shown), not too close to denture edges.
  • Rinse mouth before inserting dentures.
  • Press dentures in place, hold firmly, and bite down for a few seconds.

Helpful Hints:
  • Keep cap and nozzle dry so that opening does not clog.
  • Keep the tube in room temperature for easy squeezing.
  • Apply adhesive evenly.
  • Visit your dentist regularly to maintain proper-fitting dentures.

How soon will Super PoliGrip® start to work?

The product starts to work immediately.

How long can the effects last?

The effects could last all day (up to 16 hours) depending upon the individual, the fit of the denture, the amount of saliva in the mouth, and the foods and beverages that are consumed.

Has PoliGrip® Free formula changed?

Yes, in November 2006, the formula was changed for improved taste. For Super PoliGrip's strongest hold ever, try Super PoliGrip Original.

How do I remove the adhesive from my gums and denture plate?

To remove dentures and adhesives:
  • Swish mouth with water.
  • Take dentures out slowly by using rocking motions.
  • Wipe adhesive residue from gums and dentures with soft, moist cloth.
  • Brush your dentures under running warm water and soak in a Polident® cleanser.

How can I make sure that Super PoliGrip® holds in place during meals?

Super PoliGrip® should be applied 15-30 minutes before the meal.

Does it come in different strengths or flavors?

Super PoliGrip® denture adhesive cream is available in four variants: Original, Free, Ultra Fresh and Extra Care with PoliSeal®. Super PoliGrip® denture adhesive Powder is also available.

What is the "Ooze Control Tip®"?

Super PoliGrip® introduced the unique, patented Ooze-Control Tip® in 2002 across all cream variants. This innovation helps to spread a thinner, flatter ribbon of adhesive so it's easier to apply with more control and less ooze.
Also, see What's New.

Can Super PoliGrip® be used to secure partials?

Yes, all denture adhesives can be used on partials. The adhesive will not damage the metal parts (i.e., the connectors and clasps) of the denture.

Super PoliGrip® Comfort Seal® Strips FAQs

What are Comfort Seal® Strips?
How do Comfort Seal® Strips work?
How do Comfort Seal® Strips differ from cream adhesives?
Where are the strips manufactured?
What is the shelf life for the strips?
Are the strips flavored?
When should an adhesive be used?
When should adhesives not be considered?
What if dentures do not fit correctly?
Is it harmful if I swallow some of the strips?
Is Super PoliGrip® Denture Adhesive Cream sold in a travel-size tube?

What are Comfort Seal® Strips?

New Comfort Seal® Strips are an innovation in denture adhesives that allow denture wearers to get a more natural feeling. The Comfort Seal® Strips give denture wearers reliable, all-day hold and improved bite force without the unpleasant ooze and mess of a cream adhesive. The pre-measured strips provide just the right amount of adhesive, every time.

How do Comfort Seal® Strips work?

PoliGrip® Comfort Seal® Strips contain ingredients that form a firm, comfortable seal when wetted, to provide a secure hold between the denture and gum. A wax base keeps the ingredients in the 'strip' shape in place on the denture and not spread out. This prevents the unpleasant oozing out between the denture and gum that often occur with a cream adhesive.

The strips provide an increase in bite force to help denture wearers chew hard-to-eat foods which they may have been avoiding. The secure seal will also help to prevent food particles from becoming trapped between the denture and the gum.

The strips provide a comfortable and tight seal for a more natural feeling and provides strong all-day hold.

How do Comfort Seal® Strips differ from cream adhesives?

PoliGrip® Comfort Seal® Strips are an innovation in denture adhesives allowing denture wearers to get close to a more natural feeling. Comfort Seal® Strips provide the same level of hold as a cream adhesive but without the unpleasant ooze, mess or taste. This allows denture wearers to experience the confidence and peace of mind of a secure denture fit and a reduced likelihood of dislodgement.

The convenient pre-measured strips are individually and hygienically wrapped to provide just the right amount of hold.

Where are the strips manufactured?

The strip material is produced in Japan using a patented formulation. They are then cut into the strip shape and packaged in the USA.

What is the shelf life for the strips?

The expiry period is three years.

Are the strips flavored?

The strips are not flavored and they have a neutral taste so that there will be no interference with the tastes of foods.

When should an adhesive be used?

In addition to providing a more secure denture fit and reducing the likelihood of dislodgement, adhesives provide other important benefits for denture wearers. Adhesives increase the force that can be applied during biting and improve the ability of chewing hard to eat foods which denture wearers may be avoiding. Adhesives can also prevent food particles from collecting underneath dentures - removing a painful source of irritation for the denture wearer.

When should adhesives not be considered?

Adhesives can provide a more secure denture fit and reduce the potential for dislodgement, even for people who think that their dentures fit well. However, adhesives should never be used as a 'fix' for dentures that do not fit properly. Wearers should contact their dentist as soon as their dentures begin to feel loose, cause discomfort or cause sores to develop, as they may need to have their dentures re-fitted.

Adhesives should not be used when good oral hygiene practices cannot be maintained (for example, due to declining manual dexterity) or when there are any known allergies to the adhesive's ingredients.

What if dentures do not fit correctly?

Sometimes wearers may use adhesives in order to 'manage' dentures that become ill-fitting over time due to wear of the denture lining or changing oral tissue structure. Ill-fitting dentures can be harmful to the underlying soft and hard tissues and occasionally inflammation of the soft tissues can result. In addition, because of its movement on the soft tissue and underlying bone, an ill-fitting denture can contribute to bone resorption (loss). It is very important that denture wearers contact their dentist as soon as their dentures begin to feel loose, cause discomfort or cause sores to develop, as they may need to have their dentures re-fitted.

Is it harmful if I swallow some of the strips?

The ingredients of the Comfort Seal® Strips are safe for use, even if some of a strip is swallowed. Comfort Seal® Strips contain the active ingredients polyethylene oxide and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose which are water-soluble polymers.

Is Super PoliGrip® Denture Adhesive Cream sold in a travel-size tube?

No. We do not market a "travel size" tube at this time.

Why should I clean my dentures?

  • preventing daily stains
  • controlling denture odor
  • improving denture appearance
  • maintaining good dental hygiene

Can denture cleansing tablets alone dislodge trapped food particles?

Brushing and soaking are recommended for best results. Soaking your dentures in tablets may not fully remove food particles and plaque. How should Polident® tablets be used?

For best results, use Polident® tablets as per package instructions.

How soon will it start to work?

Cleaning begins as soon as the tablet starts to dissolve. Please follow soak time directions on the box for best results (Overnight = 8 hours, Smokers = 15 minutes, Partials = 5 minutes).

Can I use more Polident® tablets than recommended?

Use as directed.

Can I use less Polident® tablets than recommended?

It is not recommended. For best results, use one full tablet.

Why is it important to use Polident® every day?

Once you place your denture in your mouth, plaque and bacteria begin to build up again. That is why it is important to properly clean your dentures every day. Because brushing and soaking work together to give you the best results, we recommend soaking daily with Polident® tablets and brushing afterwards with Polident® fresh cleanse.

Can Polident® be used regularly/indefinitely?

No. Use Polident® tablets as instructed.

What are the benefits of using Polident® fresh cleanse?

Only Polident® fresh cleanse has all these advantages:

Abrasive-Free: Like Polident® tablets, it contains no abrasive ingredients. Ordinary toothpaste contains abrasives that scratch and dull dentures and promote bacteria buildup.

Fresh Breath Feeling: Unique breath-freshening formula kills 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria and leaves your breath feeling fresh for up to five hours.

Microcleans: Active foam easily penetrates into crevices to microclean away tough stains and plaque. Soaking with tablets gets into the areas that brushing might not; brushing helps remove plaque and particles that have been loosened by the soaking tablets.

Easy to Use: The active foam covers the denture quickly and rinses away easily, unlike toothpaste which has a thicker consistency. Simply pump, brush and rinse!

Maintains Gloss and Shine: Daily use helps maintain the gloss and shine of dentures significantly better than most family toothpastes.

How does Polident® fresh cleanse keep breath feeling fresh for up to five hours?

Polident® fresh cleanse kills 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria and contains a unique combination of minty flavor oils. After cleaning and rinsing, Polident® fresh cleanse™ leaves your dentures microclean and your breath feeling fresh for up to five hours.

I currently brush my dentures with toothpaste. Should I replace my toothpaste with Polident® fresh cleanse?

Yes, and here’s why. Dentures are softer than natural teeth. And because ordinary toothpaste is abrasive, it will scratch your dentures. These scratches give bacteria a place to attach and grow, and bacteria can cause bad breath. Instead of ordinary toothpaste, soak daily with Polident® tablets and brush afterwards with Polident® fresh cleanse.

If I use Polident® fresh cleanse, do I still need to soak my denture or partial with effervescent tablets?

Soaking and brushing work together for best results. To keep your dentures fresh and clean, soak with tablets such as Polident® and brush afterwards with a denture cleaner like Polident® fresh cleanse.

Can I use Polident® fresh cleanse to brush my natural teeth in my mouth?

No. Polident® fresh cleanse is not to be used in the mouth and is not designed for natural teeth.

How do you use Polident® Dentu-Crème or Dentu-Gel?

For best results, follow package instructions.

Even though the products do not contain fluoride, can Dentu-Crème/Dentu-Gel be used on natural teeth?

No. These products should not be used in the mouth.

Do I have to remove my dentures when I use Polident® Dentu-Crème and Dentu-Gel?

Yes. These products are designed to clean dentures after they are removed from the mouth.

Can Polident® fresh cleanse be used multiple times a day?

Yes. As long as you follow the directions on the label each time, you can use Polident® fresh cleanse multiple times a day.

Are dentures durable (against scratches and nicks)?

Dentures are made of acrylic. The denture acrylic is much softer than your natural teeth, so:
  1. Do not use ordinary toothpaste on your dentures. Ordinary toothpaste often contains abrasives. These abrasives are ideal for cleaning your natural teeth but scratch dentures. These scratches become places where bacteria can attach and grow, and bacteria can lead to denture odor.
  2. Use a soft denture brush or soft toothbrush.

What is the difference between brushing dentures with toothbrushes and toothpaste, and soaking dentures in solution?

First, you shouldn’t use ordinary toothpaste on your dentures. Ordinary toothpaste contains abrasives. These abrasives are ideal for cleaning your natural teeth but can scratch dentures. These scratches become places where bacteria can attach and grow, and bacteria can lead to denture odor.

Brushing and soaking work together to give you best results. To keep your dentures fresh and clean, soak with Polident® tablets and brush afterwards with Polident® fresh cleanse. Polident® tablets remove plaque in spots you can’t reach with a toothbrush, while brushing with Polident® fresh cleanse removes food particles and plaques that Polident® alone cannot remove.

Will brushing with regular toothpaste damage my dentures?

Yes. Ordinary toothpaste contains abrasives. These abrasives are ideal for cleaning your natural teeth but can scratch dentures. These scratches become places where bacteria can attach and grow, and bacteria can lead to denture odor. Use Polident® fresh cleanse instead of ordinary toothpaste to brush your dentures.
