Make A Daily Routine With PoliCare
You're probably used to using a toothbrush and toothpaste every day, so you might be thinking that that's what you do with your new dentures. Not quite. In fact, we strongly urge you and all denture wearers to stop using regular toothpaste on your dentures!
Toothpaste contains abrasives, which can actually scratch your new dentures, creating more places for bacteria to attach and grow. And bacteria can cause bad breath. So what do you do?
Rinse and brush your dentures after every meal. Using a soft denture brush and a product like Polident® fresh cleanse®* will clean your dentures without scratching the acrylic surface. Ordinary toothpaste can cause micro scratches that provide a place for bacteria to hide. And fresh cleanse keeps your dentures feeling fresh for up to five hours. Plus, it's so easy to use - simply pump, brush, and rinse! With fresh cleanse, you can brush twice a day or more to help maintain that fresh feeling.
Remember, handle your dentures over a sink half-filled with water. This will help protect your dentures if you drop them.
* Do not use Fresh Cleanse in the mouth.
A denture adhesive can help maintain denture stability and improve your peace of mind. It will also help to keep food particles from lodging between the denture and the gum, thus helping to reduce the incidence of gum irritation. New denture wearers may find added comfort by using an adhesive early on in the transition period if the gums are tender and sensitive. If the denture is loose as your mouth adapts to the fit of a new denture, an adhesive can provide added security.
Super PoliGrip® adhesive creams have strong hold that lasts all day long. Plus they offer the unique, patented Ooze-Control Tip® for more control and less ooze to prevent an uncomfortable feeling. Remember, a little goes a long way. As you try to determine how much to use, start with a small amount and then increase if you feel it's necessary.
Super PoliGrip® powder also offers strong, all-day hold in a convenient powder formula. Simply spray it onto the surfaces that come into contact with your gums or the roof of your mouth, remove the excess powder, and press into place.
PoliGrip® Comfort Seal Strips® are pre-cut and pre-measured with just the right amount of adhesive for a strong hold with no mess. They're easy to apply, easy to remove, and easy to use.
However, an adhesive is no substitute for properly fitting dentures. If you find your dentures are loose, see your dentist. And remember: Be sure to see your dentist if the fit of your dentures changes over time.
Remember, handle your dentures over a sink half-filled with water. This will help protect your dentures if you drop them.
Now you may be asking yourself, "Do I brush, soak, or both?" Brushing and soaking dentures every single day is simply a better way to keep your dentures clean and fresh, than brushing or soaking alone. Remember, too, that it's important to use products specially designed for dentures. It's also important to remember that brushing and soaking offer different benefits. Brushing after soaking helps to ensure the removal of debris and plaque. And it helps to dislodge food particles that soaking alone cannot do.
After you've brushed with a denture toothbrush and fresh cleanse, you will also want to use a specialty cleanser like Polident® for daily deep cleaning. Just soak your dentures in a container of warm water with a Polident effervescent tablet. After soaking, rinse your dentures with running water. Do not place tablets or tablet solution in mouth.
This deep-cleaning process will help remove tough stains, kill 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria, and effectively remove plaque and odor-causing film. Polident even gets into crevices to remove food particles that brushing can miss. Remember, too, that you should take your dentures out for at least eight hours every day anyway, so use that time to get your dentures extra clean and fresh.
Always store your dentures in water to prevent them from drying out. And make sure you remember to rinse and dry off your dentures before you put them back in.
While you're cleaning your dentures, don't forget to clean your remaining teeth and gums. Good oral care is still a vital part of your daily routine.
